New Spaces is a second-generation family design-build remodeler in Burnsville, founded by Doug Nelson and now led by his son Shawn, handling kitchen, bath, basement, addition, and whole-home remodels across the metro with a twelve-person team and more than forty years of projects behind it. The firm notes that its founder and his son are the only father-son pair to have both served as BATC presidents.
Its leadership has been similarly involved in NARI: a principal served on the Minnesota board from 2006 to 2011, was its president in 2007, and was vice-chair of NARI National's strategic planning committee. NARI Minnesota gave the firm a ROMA Design Award for a whole-house remodel under $400,000 in 2024, and its work has appeared in Remodelers Showcase events every year since 2020.
